Section C:

Interviews

This section has two parts - interview preparation and the interviews themselves.

Part 1: Prepare for the Interviews

As part of our investigation cycle, we're going to seek out inspiration for our products by interviewing others. You will join a small group of people and a guest speaker. That speaker will tell a 5-10 minute personal story about how a place or space shaped them. Then, you will have an opportunity to ask them questions about their experience. Your goal is to gain inspiration from them for your own story.

Before meeting with your guest speaker, plan some questions you might like to ask them. Be sure to keep your concept in mind. These questions can be recorded on your handout.

A worksheet titled "Preparing for Interviews" from ACP (Applied Coaching for Projects, LLC). The worksheet includes sections for:

Team Name: Optional, but fun
Team Members: Your Names Here
Concept: Select one (Cause and Effect; Change, or Concept)
Below these sections, there are directions: "Capture your learning and ideas in the sections below."

The main part of the worksheet contains the prompt: "Interviews: What questions might you ask the guest speaker? Keep in mind your concept. We recommend having a bank of questions to draw from—think 5-7. You won't use all of them. Just need to have them ready."

There are numbered lines from 1 to 7 for writing questions. The bottom of the worksheet shows the copyright notice: "© 2018 Applied Coaching for Projects, LLC".

Part 2: Conducting the Interviews

Here are some reminders for this exciting section of our day:

  • All of the interviews will take place via zoom. Join the Zoom session by clicking here

  • Once you're in zoom, you will join a breakout room. The assignments are posted in the room.

  • Remember, your goal is to use what you learn from these stories to inspire your own!

  • You may record your interview notes in your handout.
